W. Marichal Gentry
W. Marichal Gentry has spent most of his professional career as an educator, pediatric social worker, and mentor. Marichal currently works at Durham Academy in enrollment management, where he oversees the upper school enrollment programs and community outreach with Durham Academy’s partner schools and programs. Marichal also serves as an instructor in Durham Academy’s Peer Education class.
Marichal spent nearly 25 years serving students as Vice President and Dean of Students at Yale University, Middlebury College, and at his alma mater, The University of the South. Marichal grew up in Lewisburg, TN, and he returned to Sewanee as VP and Dean of Students to care for his ill mother.
Marichal earned a B.A. in Social Science/Foreign Language (Political Science with French) at Sewanee. He went on to earn a Master of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, focusing on Families and Children.
Marichal has also earned a certificate of completion from the Institute of European Studies in Paris, France, and two certificates of completion from Harvard University’s Institute for Higher Education: The Management Development Program and the Institute for Management in Leadership in Education.
